"Sounds complicated. It is," Marcus Hohlweg begins the conversation. "Our radiation detectors are used in industry, to protect the public and in medical technology, for example in X-ray machines. Our products are measuring devices and sensors for detecting ionizing radiation such as alpha, beta and gamma radiation. A well-known representative of this type is the Geiger-Müller counter tube. It works by generating gas discharges that are triggered by the ionizing radiation and lead to a measurable electrical signal."

Thus, VacuTec fulfils a highly specialized mission: the detectors work in secret, but their measured values are just as indispensable in industrial processes as they are in medical diagnostics, for example in modern X-ray machines. "With over 50 colleagues, we work in a niche market. But made in Germany is in demand. The highest demands are placed on the material and the testing mechanisms. There are no tolerances with this technology. Even though our products are not visible to most people, they can be found in many devices, including diagnostic X-ray machines used by doctors."

The versatility of this measurement technology is also demonstrated by a current scientific project by Hungarian students: they are using Geiger-Müller counter tubes from VacuTec to investigate ionizing radiation in the atmosphere at altitudes of up to 90 kilometers.
